AstroDrill: Cosmic Factory

Crash-land on a barren planet with nothing but a hand-drill and a busted lander pod. Tunnel through five layers of increasingly hostile rock, automate a sprawling factory of smelters and assemblers, refine the rare materials that only live in the planet's core, then build a rocket and escape. AstroDrill is a 2D sandbox factory-automation and mining game where survival, optimization and spatial puzzle-solving all share the same screen.

Features

  • A five-layer procedural world. 100 columns by 300 rows of dirt, stone, basalt, obsidian and uranium. Each stratum demands a stronger drill before it will yield.
  • Adjacency-based factories. Coal Generators only power the machines next to them. Wire your supply chain physically, not through invisible menus.
  • 11 machines, 3 tech tiers. Smelters, Assemblers, Refineries, Circuit Fabs, Hull Presses, Fuel Mixers and Auto-Miners. Upgrade your LanderHub to unlock each tier.
  • Battery survival loop. Your jetpack drains power on every ascent. Wander too deep and you'll stall in the dark. Return to the hub to recharge before it kills you.
  • Box2D escape flight. When your factory finally produces enough Rocket Fuel, Hull Plating and Circuit Boards, lift off in a physics-simulated rocket. Reach altitude 1000 and you've won.
  • Cloud saves and online leaderboard. Track who reached the deepest layers and who escaped fastest.

Controls

  • Mining:  WASD or arrows to move, W or up for jetpack, 1-9 to pick a hotbar slot, left-click to mine and place, right-click to toggle machines on or off, + and - to zoom, F5 to save, L to launch.
  • Flight: W or up for thrust, A and D to rotate, E to swap engines (Chemical or Ion), R to abort back to mining.

About the Build

  • Built from scratch in Java with libGDX (desktop and WebGL), a Spring Boot REST backend for accounts, cloud saves and the leaderboard, and PostgreSQL for persistence. Solo project. No Unity, no Unreal. Source on GitHub
